Filling up large walls

If you have a big expanse of wall and only one (not so wide) canvas painting to fill it up - get 2 blank canvases in the same height as your painting and paint them in one solid color. They will look like extensions of the one focal piece. Here, I found an inexpensive painting at IKEA and painted the other two canvases black. It's an inexpensive way to fill up a large wall and really makes a statement.

Design is the solution to a problem

My problem? We created these really cool frames with a few screws, plexiglas, and plywood for an art exhibit in Dallas. They looked great at the show! But back at the studio the plywood was almost the same color as the walls. Our solution? Frame them with red paint. I painted large red squares with latex paint in each spot that I wanted to hang a picture. It's a great way to get the look of a large frame for much less money. (And it's easy to change with your ever-evolving color scheme.) You could even paint a silhouette of a whimsical antique frame in a bold color instead of the simple squares for a great look. For those of you who think you lack artistic skills, don't worry, it's easy! Use a level to draw straight lines (or even a large stencil) and just paint inside the lines.
